Artist biography:

Emmy Andersson was born in Goteborg, Sweden in 1980 and now lives and works in western Maine. She works primarily in oil on large canvas.

"Some say that the object is just an excuse. I have to agree. However, the choice of object is what makes us visual-arts-artists so different from one another. The techniques we use will ultimately define us as well, but the object, the angle of the object, the light of the object and the artist's vision of the object is what truly gives a reflection of the artist. My object always intrigues me, makes me wonder, reflect, and react. Eyes, figures, shapes and color are all dramatic components of my work,” says Andersson.

Andersson has exhibited and sold her art in Maine and Vermont, and in her homeland of Sweden for the past six years. She maintains an active exhibit schedule including participation in shows at the Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center and Café Nomad in Norway, the Turner Center for the Arts, Gallery 5 in Lewiston and the Space Gallery in Portland. The Painter also exhibited in the Norway sidewalk Art Show for the first time in 2007 and won Best of Show in the 2007 Moore Park Art Show in South Paris for a self-portrait which is currently on exhibit at the Mahoosuc Arts Council office in Bethel.

Additional exhibits include McLaughlin Garden's "Art in the Barn" in South Paris, the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, the 2008 Norway Sidewalk Art Show, Gritty's "Art and Ale" in Auburn, the Valhalla Fields Summer Arts Celebration in Poland, Willy Bean's "Art and Java" in Lewiston, and Auburn Savings Bank in Auburn.
