Heather Westleigh
Heather Westleigh has studied art with local artists in Western Maine and has a B.A. in fine art and psychology from Goddard College. She is currently enrolled in a Masters in Psychology program with an interest in expressive arts therapies.
When asked to describe her love for art, Heather says, “To me, art is a uniquely human endeavor. I believe there is an artist residing within everyone; the art we create comes not directly from us: we are vehicles of its origination. I create art with oil, sculpie, plaster, wax, acrylic, and almost any medium I can get my hands on. I love to explore color, depth and texture. I am inspired by the psyche and the soul, the place of connection between body and spirit.”
Heather's primary medium is encaustic painting, focused primarily on mixed media. Encaustics is an ancient pigmented wax medium. A truly multi-media practice, Heather incorporates pages from romance novels, creating “found poetry” as well as imagery. Heather is also an educator and teaches encaustic painting at the Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center and other venues.
