Brenda Ellis-Sauro
I have been drawing and painting as long as I can remember. As a young girl I was fascinated with fashion designing. I spent most of my time drawing models with my designs. I learned to sew at the age of ten and studied dressmaking and art through-out high school. I took an oil painting class when I was fifteen and my love of painting began. I have always had a heightened imagination, drawing mythical creatures, goddess', angels, fairies and mermaids. My first painting was a fairy in my grandmother’s teacup. I've owned and operated three gallery/workshops over the past twenty years, always surrounding myself with other artists, students and creative friends. I have learned so much from each and every one of them. I have studied with various artist/instructors through-out my adulthood, focusing on the human figure and portraiture. My favorite period of art was the Pre-Raphaelites. The medieval romance and quiet seductiveness of their models has been a continuous inspiration to me. My favorite artist being John W. Waterhouse and the brotherhood of Rossetti, Millais and Holman Hunt. I also admire Sargent, Cassatt and Mucha. I continue to paint everyday, drawing from my imagination, my memories of growing up by the ocean and painting from life.
