Calling All Artists for the Norway Arts Festival July 10, 2010
NORWAY – Calling all artists! The Norway Arts Festival is
seeking artists and artisans for the 43rd Annual Norway Sidewalk Art Show,
Saturday, July 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Western Maine Art Group (WMAG) -- which founded the
sidewalk art show in 1967 along one of the busiest state roads in Western Maine
-- will again be overseeing the art show this year as a co-sponsor of the
entire Norway Arts Festival with Norway Downtown, which manages the variety of
musical, theatrical and dance performances.
Artists are being sought representing a broad spectrum of
art including paintings, drawings, photography, wood, metal and glass
sculpture; fine jewelry; handmade prints; fiber and textile/fiber arts and
more. All art work must be the original design and creation of the exhibitor. Artists
can enter work for judging to compete for cash prizes in addition to a variety
of sponsored purchase awards. Volunteers worked diligently in 2009 to raise
$4,300 for 23 awards. Booth spaces are limited to 120.
Single 10 x 10-foot booths are $60 for a single exhibitor,
$35 a piece for a shared booth with up to four exhibitors, and $75 for booths
shared by groups of five or more. Applications must be received by June 15 for
inclusion in the Festival Program.
Art Show Director Aranka Matolcsy noted that organizers are
expecting a high visitor turnout as a result of marketing efforts which have
been stepped up with a 30-second TV commercial produced by Steve Galvin of
NPC-TV. In addition, a $1,000 donation of radio advertising from the Gleason
Media Services will dramatically enhance the reach of advertising efforts.
